I love when my birthday falls on the weekend because that usually means we get to celebrate all weekend long. On Friday night, Cory got home from work and asked if I wanted to start my birthday weekend with a present, or end it with one. Of couse I said I wanted my present right that very second. He surprised me with a gorgeous watch I had been lusting after. I can’t believe he remembered after all this time (I think I can thank pinterest).

On Saturday, we drove into town and I chopped my hair off after going without a cut for 5 months. I feel like me again. After we were done at the salon we headed over  to Water Ave. Coffee Company for a latte. After wandering around the neighborhood taking polaroids for awhile, we decided to head on over to  The Ace and get our monthly photo booth strip (I think it’s one of my all time favorites).

We headed home for lunch and to watch ‘Groundhog Day.’ Then we got dolled up, headed back into the city and had dinner at Bar Avignon: an appetizer of pickled figs and artisanal cheeses followed by pork cheeks bourguignon with mushrooms and buttered house noodles and seared steelhead with citrus-fennel slaw, potatoes and caper aioli.

On Sunday we slept in (heaven) and I made a list of 26 things I hope to accomplish by the time I’m 27. After some debate we decided to have brunch at Woodsman Tavern. We feasted on their honey vanilla brioche beignets with pear thyme jam, potted egg with creamed greens, biscuit with country ham and apple butter and a side of peppered bacon. Then I had a love affair with the gorgeous flowers outside of Woodsman Market next door. Oh, Spring, I can’t wait for you!

We made our way over to Portland Center Stage and saw a matinee of ‘Venus in Fur.’ Ginny Myers Lee and David Barlow were fantastic. The show is playing through March 10th, so please go see it! After the show we were famished and after a quick burrito, we walked over to our final destination, my favorite ice cream shop, Salt & Straw. They even gave me my ice cream on the house, how sweet is that!? Cory and I shared a scoop of the Oregon Kiss and a scoop of The Pirates of Trinidad. We have already decided we are going back to try out a few more of their seasonal flavors on Valentine’s Day.
