We have been preparing for a lot of things coming our way in September this week. To start off we just got a new couch yesterday from my parents. Thank you Mom and Dad! Been doing a lot of painting to our apartment too. But for the next few weekends we’ll be attending weddings of dear friends (well, I get to attend and Jade is a bridesmaid), shooting the weddings of some new wonderful clients who have become our friends, attending and reporting on Portland Fashion Week as members of their Style Collective and at the end of the month going across the pond for a stay in London and Paris! It’s all incredibly exciting and exhausting. The anticipation is killing us! We’ve been trying to get as many errands and chores done before all these activities come our way.
In fact, I went on an errand to take one of our cameras to get cleaned the other day and something awesome happened. After I finished up the paperwork for dropping our camera off I decided to take a quick peek around the shop to see what other goodies they happened to have in. Lo and behold a Polaroid sx-70 Land Camera peered out of the far end of the display case and I swear I heard it call my name… “Cory… Cory… I’m over here…” The closer I walked to it the more I knew that it was meant to be that I came in the shop on this particular day. I inquired to the shop clerk to let me have a look at and it was love after first well, click. I had a gut feeling that this was the camera I have been searching for. We have been on the market for an sx-70 for ages and were hoping the right deal would come our way before our trip. I knew it in the pit of my stomach that this was ours. I don’t know if you ever get those feelings, but I do. I got it when I stepped in to our current apartment. I got it when I applied for my last two jobs. I got it when I met Jade. I knew it was going to happen, it was just a matter of time. It came with two very old expired packs of original Polaroid film and we knew no matter the condition of that film, we were gonna shoot it all up! The portraits you see here in our 35th week of our 52 Weeks Project are testaments to our new weapon of choice (these portraits totally made us think about this). We are excited to be able to learn more about it and continue honing our skills. Need to make a big Impossible Project film order!
And now, a few links we are endlessly enraptured with this week…
Wouldn’t mind meeting Jamie someday.
Inspired by the seemingly endless and spiraling genius of James Mercer of The Shins. I wish I had half the talent and motivation to continue to tour and make records as he does.
Can’t wait to have an afternoon tea in London at the hotel we’ll be staying at.
Wouldn’t mind owning a new or used Gibson Dobro guitar. Love the way those things twang.
