Heart Roasters on Southwest 12th Avenue

We try to go out to a few new places around town each week. That is not to say we do that every week. It’s easy to get stuck in the familiar and comfortable places that we usually go, especially when they are just so convenient. Since moving into our neighborhood in Northwest Portland we have been sticking to places predominantly around the Northwest quadrant. I think with the weather getting colder and drearier, we don’t want to wander too far from home. We really have enjoyed our trips across town to Heart Roasters on Northeast 22nd and Burnside in the past though, especially since they are one of the only places in town who will serve a decent Cortado. But those trips are usually far and few between not only because it’s a bit out of the way for us but because it is so popular and nearly impossible to get a seat inside. We were incredibly thrilled to find out a few weeks ago that there was a new location of Heart opening on Southwest 12th and Alder no more than ten or fifteen blocks away from us. We knew that this place was going to end up becoming one of our new familiar haunts.

We decided to go in early one morning a few days after they first opened to get acquainted with our possible new home away from home. We  found that the minimalist color palette of black and white as well as the spacious environment and high ceilings were right up our alley in terms of aesthetic and design. There was a certain clean and simple aspect to this space that made me feel pretty damn zen. Maybe it’s because I rarely get up as early as we were that morning. Maybe it’s an association in the contrast of yin-yang color scheme. Or maybe it’s just the mellow vibes coming from the friendly baristas. Either way, I really felt at peace while hanging out inside the place. The latte I ordered was completely on par with their other location. Pretty certain we’ll be hanging out there quite a bit this winter…

Hi! I am a French student living in Lyon, I discovered your blog through Instagram a few months ago.
I love vintage clothes, I love good food, I could only LOVE your blog!! I think the fact that it is the place of expression of both of you is great. You really make a beautiful couple.
I just wish that it had a mobile version, it would be easier to read your posts from a phone. Maybe you could think about it 🙂
